A skill is a versioned set of instructions for an agent: what inputs it takes, what to research, what to produce, and how to return the result to BrainyShorts. The agent does the work with its own models and tools. BrainyShorts only publishes the skill and checks the result.

## Available skills

| Id | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `social-post-from-brief` | One original post from a recurring editorial brief (topic, audience, goal, format, voice) |
| `source-to-social-post` | Turns a trusted article, release note, video, or page into an original post |
| `topic-watch` | Watches a topic and posts only when something qualifying happened; otherwise skips |

## Versions

Automations pin a version, so a new release never changes a running schedule.

| Version | Adds |
| --- | --- |
| `1.0.0` | Instagram |
| `1.1.0` | TikTok, and YouTube as draft |
| `1.2.0` | YouTube automatic publishing through the parent runner |
| `1.3.0` | LinkedIn personal profiles and X (current) |

## Fetching a skill

These endpoints are public and need no key.

```bash
# every skill at its latest version, with inputs and schedule presets
curl -s https://www.brainyshorts.com/api/skills
# one skill as JSON, including the list of versions
curl -s https://www.brainyshorts.com/api/skills/social-post-from-brief
# a pinned version as Markdown, ready to hand to an agent
curl -s "https://www.brainyshorts.com/api/skills/social-post-from-brief?version=1.3.0&format=markdown"
```

Over MCP, use `brainy_list_skills` and `brainy_get_skill`.

## Running a skill

- **Once, by hand:** give the Markdown to your agent, let it make the media, then create a post through the [REST API](/api) or [MCP](/mcp).
- **On a schedule:** create an [automation](/automations). Your runner fetches the pinned version at each run.

## Agent skill for these docs

These docs also publish an installable agent skill that teaches an agent the BrainyShorts API itself: addresses, auth, the upload flow, and limits. Find it at [`/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json`](/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json).
